ABOUT NOVI SAD BRIDGE CLUB

Novi Sad Bridge Club (NSBK) is, after BTBK, the eldest club in today Yugoslavia. It was established in November 1982. on initiative of a group of enthusiasts from Novi Sad: Petar Aranicki, Franja Nagy (which have, unfortunately, passed), Milan Hadzic, Ratimir Doroški and others.

Already on the beginning the Club gathered relatively a great number of players; the ones that played bridge before as well as the beginners, which made their first steps in bridge in NSBK (after the first course, twenty three students out of forty continued playing!)

During the eighties, NSBK worked very successfully. Official club tournaments were regularly organized, players from Novi Sad regularly attended all important national competitions and had significant success. In 1983. and 1985. Yugoslav Team Championships were held in Novi Sad, where about 60 teams attended. In mid-eighties Novi Sad four times hosted the "Cup of Cities" - a large teams tournament where, apart from domestic teams, a large number of abroad players were present. Also, NSBK regularly hosted the national masters tournaments.

Nineties were the years of decay for NSBK, as well for the entire country. Only in last couple of years the club increased its membership and tournament attendance. Nevertheless, NSBK players had - and still have - significant role in national tournaments. "Cup of Cities" tournament was revived 1990 under name "NS Open".

Today, NSBK has about 50 active players. The tournaments are held Mondays and Thursdays in club-gallery "Prometej", Marija Trandafil square 11. Club president is Atila Baba and the general secretary is Rajko Bulatović.

NSBK is member of Bridge Union of Serbia and Yugoslav Bridge League (YUBEL).
