1st CUP OF VOJVODINA

Novi Sad, Saturday Feb 21. - Sunday Feb 22. 2004.

Cup of Vojvodina is pairs tournament with cash prizes, in 4 sessions. At the same time, the competition presents the pairs championships of Vojvodina region.

The tournament is played through two days. In Saturday, two qualification sessions are held. In Sunday, best 14 (18) pairs plays two sessions in final group, with carryover from qualifications. The remaining pairs play a single-sessions consolation tournament, without carryover.

Saturday - Qualifications

• Schedule:
  11.00 session 1
  17.00 session 2
• Two sessions of mitchell tournament with matchpoint calculation
• Variant 1: Up to 36 pairs: one section, 26-30 boards. Variant 2: 36 pairs & up: 2 sections (manual board duplication).
• Lineup for session 1: semi-conducted draw
  Lineup for session 2: one section -- "reverse snake" (1.->NS1, 2.->EW9 itd). two sections: nema NS and EW pairs interchange lines, while EW pairs change the section as well.
• Calculation: matchpoints.
• The director will determine tournament jury in advance. The deadline for appeals is 30 min. upon session completion.
• Ranking is made in accordance with average percentile result from two sessions

Sunday - Finals

    Final Group (14 or 18 pairs)

• Variant 1: up to 32 pairs total. Best 14 from qualification round play two final sessions of 28 boards each (4 per match). Variant 2: 32 pairs & up: Best 18 play two final sessions of 27 boards each (3 per match). Ties critical for placement in finals is resolved so that the pair with better score from better session has the advantage; in case of total tie, toss coin decides.
• The result from qualification round is carried over into the finals, but counted as one session. Total tournament winner is the pair with the best average from two final sessions + total qualification score.
• In case where one or more pairs qualified for finals withdraw, and it is announced to organizer in Saturday, the final group will be completed with remaining pairs. However, if one or more pairs eligible for finals do not arrive in Sunday, the final group will not be enhanced.
• Lineup in finals is made according to "snake" on the basis of current overall placement. Organizer may replace a EW pair, on their demand, with a NS pair in order to avoid 4 consecutive sessions on EW line.

    Consolation Group (the remainder of the field)

• Schedule:
  10.00 session 1
• Consolation finals is played as one session of matchpoint tournament. There's no carryover from qualifications, so all pairs have equal chances
• Possible newcoming pairs have may play in consolation group.
• Pobednik utešnog finala je pobednik sednice.
• Lineup is made according to "snake" on the basis of qualification round placement.

Prizes

Minimal awards are:

• 1st place: 10000 din + cup
• 2nd place:   8000 din.
• 3rd place:   6000 din.
• 4th place:   4000 din.
• 5th place:   3000 din.
• Consolation finals - 1st: 3000 din
• Consolation finals - 2nd: 2000 din
• Consolation finals - 3rd: 1000 din
• I qualification session winner: 1500 din.
• II qualification session winner: 1500 din.

Itinerary

Restaurant DaGomi in Veternik offered excellent conditions for play and accomodation. The restaurant is sited in the center of Veternik (village on road from Novi Sad to Bačka Palanka), on the main road.  You can reach the restaurant:

• From Subotica-Belgrade Highway: From direction of Belgrade, continue straight upon entering the city. From direction of Subotica, take turn on the right on the first traffic light in the city (after the canal bridge). From that point, drive straight, up to the left turn  (cca. 8 traffic lights - about 4 km). On the next traffic light (<1 km), turn right (towards B. Palanka and Veternik). The next light (about 3-4 km) is in the center of Veternik. The restaurant is on the left side of the main road, just behind the traffic light.
  In general, follow the directions towards Bačka Palanka and/or "Tranzit".
• From Bačka Palanka: The restaurant is sited just before the only light in Veternik, next to the Church, on the right side.
• From railway/bus station: Buses 52-56 (Veternik, Futog, Begeč) depart from the plateau in front of railway station. Departures on Saturday are in 9:30, 9:45, 10:00, 10:20, 10:40. Exit the bus on first traffic light in Veternik (about 3-4 km out of Novi Sad city borders). Use church as a landmark.
